Children must be enrolled at school by the age of 6. This is the compulsory starting age for children in South Australia. The first year of primary school is known as reception.
Reception enrolments are now open for 2024 where there will be two intakes.
Term 1 intake
If your child turns 5 before 1 May, they can start primary school at the beginning of the year.
Mid-year intake
From 2024, if your child turns 5 years between 1 May and 31 October, they can start school in either:
Students enrolled through a mid-year intake will complete 6 terms of reception.

Round 1 admission to Para Hills West Primary School is offered to families residing in the school zone at the time their child commences school or if an existing student is attending at the school. Out of zone families can be accepted in round 2, depending on student capacity at that time.
Para Hills West Primary School offers a transition program to help new Reception students familiarise themselves with the teachers, our school community, and procedures.
Para Hills West Primary School is proud of our diverse community and welcomes all prospective families into our school.
All enrolment enquiries for year levels 1 – 6 can be made by contacting our Front Office Administration Team on 82582216, where some pre-liminary information will be taken to gain an understanding of your child/children’s previous education, strengths, areas of growth, behaviour, medical and family information. Once the Principal has confirmed an available placement, enrolment forms will be issued for completion with a parent information pack. The pack details important information about our school procedures, values, core areas of learning and health and safety.
Furthermore, in accordance with the Department for Education School Enrolment Policy, the following documents will need to be provided in addition to the enrolment form.
